To set up how dates and numbers look in your workbook, follow these steps:
Go to the "File" menu.
Click on "Workbook Locale."
By default, your workbook's date and number format are set to "Automatic." This means they will match the language of the person who opens the workbook. This can be helpful if you expect people who speak different languages to view your workbook because the dates and numbers will adjust accordingly.
If you want to be more specific and have a consistent format, you can choose a particular language or region. When you pick a language or region, the workbook will always use that format, no matter who opens it.
Tableau decides the format like this:
First, it looks at what you set in the "Workbook Locale" (if you set it explicitly).
Then, it checks your computer's language settings (Windows Locale or Mac language).
If those aren't set, it uses the Tableau language settings.
If none of the above are set, it defaults to English.
So, it's like choosing how dates and numbers should appear in your workbook, and Tableau checks a few places to figure it out, making it work for your needs.
